England’s recent exit from the Cricket World Cup can be partly blamed on the exhausting winter tour the England Team have just finished, after all no-one could deny they didn’t look jaded against Sri Lanka Saturday. But could the fault lie in-part with Andrew Strauss? Indeed Michael Vaughan believes it’s time for change after stating “maybe the one-day team needs a different approach and direction”.

Vaughan however is not subscribing to the widely held view that Alistair Cook will be the one to take over the ODI captaincy, instead opting for Stuart Broad – the seamer who took 4-15 at the World Cup but whose opportunity to really stand out as a star was once again cut short by injury. Vaughan says “Broad wouldn’t be a massive gamble. Cook wouldn’t let England down, he’d be a decent captain – but I think the England side might grow under someone like Broad”. Perhaps with this summer’s ODIs against Sri Lanka coming up this could be Broad’s opportunity to grow into the role many think he’s naturally suited to?

Luckily for England, the chance to set right the ten-wicket thrashing Sri Lanka handed us on Saturday will come quickly. Tuesday, 28th June see’s the first of five one-day international’s against Sri Lanka at the Oval. This series of ODI’s will hopefully see a revitalised, resurgent England finding their form ODI’s and set them on the road to glory that has alluded them recently in ODI’s.

But first England fans will be relishing the opportunity to meet Sri Lanka in our favoured format: the test match series against Sri Lanka starts Thursday, 26th May in Cardiff and includes a historic first ever test match to be held at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. The Rose Bowl, complete with the new Shane Warne suite and private executive boxes in the brand new West Stand is to play host to the third and final match on Thursday, 16th June.
