There is great news for British tennis fans as it was confirmed that Andy Murray will be playing at this years AEGON Championships at Queen’s Club – the curtain raiser to the Great British summer of tennis. This means Murray will be joining 5 other top 12 players in the world rankings including Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Juan Martin Del Potro, Janko Tipsarevic, Mardy Fish and Gilles Simon.

Murray is now the highest ranked player to confirm their appearance and so there will be high hopes he’ll become the first Brit to win the title three times since FG Lowe in 1925. Not only did Murray confirm to play at this year’s tournament, he has committed to play at the tournament for the next 5 years.

This is no easy task for Murray however as other notable confirmed players include Richard Gasquet, Marcos Baghdatis, David Nalbandian and four-time winner Andy Roddick. His tough final against Tsonga may also still inger in his mind as would a potential match against 2010 finalist Mardy Fish who’s now ranked 9th in the world.

Murray’s confirmation that he’ll defend his AEGON Championships title means he’ll have the unique opportunity to target a grass court treble this year – Queen’s, and the Olympics!

In other related news, The BBC and the AEGON Championships have also extended their television partnership until 2017. The deal ensures that the tournament will receive at least 20 hours of live coverage.
