Cheltenham Festival 2018: A Quick Guide

Cheltenham Festival 2018

Taking place between Tuesday 13th March and Friday 16th March, this year’s Cheltenham Festival incorporates St. Patrick’s Day which only adds to what is the first major horseracing fixture of the year. Starting life in Market Harborough in 1860 as ‘The National Hunt Chase’, The Cheltenham Festival has known a few homes and names before settling into Prestbury Park in 1911 where it has remained to this day. Since 2005 this has been a four-day event, this year there are 26 races to look forward to including, of course, the prestigious Gold Cup.

Although Cheltenham enjoys suitable transport links, the inundation of people coming down for the festival has predictable results on the local transport network. There are, however, alternatives to the normal road and rail transport. We can organise and provide transport from London to the festival with the final leg of the journey being on the beautiful ATR Express. This Steam Train route weaves its way through the picturesque Cotswolds, Malverns and Vale of Evesham before dropping you off behind the main grandstand.

Once you’ve arrived, it is time to get stuck in. Hopefully making your own sizable contribution to the 265,000 or so pints of Guiness that are sunk each year. However, if you would prefer your own hospitality box, we can provide these for you at Chase View (formally known as Needham & Needham). Here you can immerse yourself in the action: these boxes overlook the final 2 fences of the circuit which the horses must clear before thundering up to the finish.

Although the Cheltenham Festival is the first major fixture of the season, this is no mere run-up to the Grand National which follows a month later in April. While it is not known for attracting many international contenders, the festival is the primary battleground for the age-old rivalry between English and Irish trainers. This competition is certainly not lost on the crowds, their excited cries being known as the famous ‘Cheltenham roar’.

The Cheltenham Festival has some of the best Race-Day hospitality on offer and is a fantastic back-drop for cementing those key client relationships, or for simply rewarding those of your team that deserve it. Get in touch to find out more about this unique event: 0203 905 1750 / [email protected]
