Learn A New Skill

With all this time on your hands there is no better time than to start learning something new. This could be a new skill within your industry i.e. take an online course to help enhance your career or learn a new language which can open the door to many opportunities. Saying that you could go the opposite way and learn something completely random like a self -defence class, haven’t you always wanted to be able to stand up for yourself and kick ass when needed? There are plenty of online courses for this type of class and it could be a fun activity to do with the other half or a house mate.

Arts & Crafts

Arts and crafts is a fun way to help improve your coordination, express yourself and think critically. These are just some of many benefits you gain from arts & crafts. A study in the American Journal of Public Health titled “The Connection Between Art, Healing and Public Health” found that those who engaged in art experienced “reductions in stress and anxiety” and “increases in positive emotions.” When you become immersed in creating something, your mind can break away from distracting thoughts and you are able to really focus on the task. It is also a great activity to do at home with the kids.

Get To Know Yourself

This could mean different things to many different people but what we mean here is take this time to understand YOU. Get to know your personality, get to know your core values, get to know your body and identify your strengths and weaknesses. Knowing who you are will always be important, far more important than others knowing who you are. A lot of people don’t and won’t have time for this, you may find it uncomfortable but once you have started to truly understand yourself its almost like everything else falls into place.

DIY At Home

Pick up your paint brushes and get creative! Now is a great time to explore different ideas within your home. You will be surprised by what you could achieve without the need for the professionals in your home during the self-isolation period. It is a great time to do the little jobs which you have been putting off for years or to experiment further with different shades.

Don’t Feel Bad Relaxing

There is no better time than right now to sit back, put your feet up and quite simply relax. When will there be another opportunity in your lifetime where you can rest and switch off to the outside world while still being paid a proportion of your salary? Make the most of this time and most importantly do what YOU want to do.

There seems to be a lot of pressure on social media to be productive and make the most of this time. Instead of making this about a competition you need to give yourself more time to reflect and unwind. Several industries are likely to be overworked once this pandemic is over so make the most of your time to relax!

Stay In Touch With Loved Ones

With the use of modern technology, it has never been easier to keep in touch with your family and friends. It can be very easy to seclude yourself from society without the face to face contact. Keep yourself busy by setting times throughout the week where you can video call family and friends for a short catch up, this is bound to cheer you up and put a smile on your family faces.

While this can be a very overwhelming time, it is important to concentrate on your wellbeing. A mixture of different activities can help you make the most of your time off work. Thankfully modern technology can help us all to achieve what we want to. From online exercise videos to DIY painting and decorating videos & video calls with your grandparents, there is plenty to keep your body & brain active!
